About St Pancras
St Pancras International is a central London terminus on Euston Road, in the borough of Camden. Since 2007 it has been the official home of Eurostar services from France, Belgium and the Netherlands. It also handles East Midlands Railway services on the Midland Main Line, Southeastern high-speed trains to Kent, and Thameslink cross-London routes linking Bedford, Cambridge, Peterborough and the south coast. The station sits between the British Library and Regent’s Canal, next to King’s Cross, with which it shares a major Underground interchange.

History
The Midland Railway built St Pancras to give its network across the Midlands and North of England a direct line into London. Problems handling rail traffic after the 1862 International Exhibition persuaded the company to act. Chief engineer William Henry Barlow designed the station, completed in 1868, with a single vast span of iron and glass—then the largest enclosed space in the world. Soon after, George Gilbert Scott’s Midland Grand Hotel rose above the frontage, its ornate Gothic brickwork giving the station a dramatic face onto Euston Road.
St Pancras was scarred by bomb damage during both world wars and, in the 1960s, faced the threat of demolition. Plans were drawn up to divert services to King’s Cross or Euston. A campaign led by the Victorian Society and supported by Jane Hughes Fawcett and John Betjeman turned the tide. Just days before demolition was due, the station was granted Grade I listed status, ensuring its survival.
At the turn of the 21st century, St Pancras was transformed once more. An £800 million programme restored the trainshed, created a secure Eurostar terminal, and added platforms for domestic high-speed and commuter services. The refurbished station reopened in 2007 as London St Pancras International, unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II. Today it combines Victorian engineering and modern transport facilities, with 15 platforms, shops, and connections across the UK and Europe.
